Queens’ College is one of our favourite colleges at Footprints Tours! The college is home to the famous Mathematical Bridge, a charming chapel and gorgeous grounds. The College was originally founded by Margaret of Anjou in 1448, during the War of The Roses. However, a a result of this tumultuous war, it ended up being re-founded by the rival queen Elizabeth Woodville. This is why the apostrophe is located after the s in the College’s name!
 
The college boasts some impressive alumni including:
 

• the Dutch philosopher and Christian humanist Desiderius Erasmus
• the English actor, comedian and screenwriter John Cleese
• the English actor, comedian and writer Stephen Fry
• the British-American astrophysicist and former NASA astronaut Michael Foale

 
Queens’ has consistently done well academically and usually places near the top of ‘The Tompkins Table’ every year.
 
College life has a reputation for being friendly and down to earth, and the college excels at sports, theater and music. The College also has some of the best facilities at Cambridge University including a stunning chapel, 2 libraries, plenty of music rooms, a bar, common room and a large sports ground.
The kitchen always caters for vegan options and the kitchen staff are happy to discuss any specific dietary needs you might need. The student cafe serves coffee, sandwiches and cakes throughout the day at very cheap prices and the student bar even does £1.80 pints of lager!
