Take the underground from Heathrow underground station 1,2,3,4,5 (depending on which terminal you’re in) to London Kings Cross on the Piccadilly Line (the blue line). We advise that you buy an oyster card for this part of the journey, rather than a paper ticket. You can buy oyster cards from any ticket machine in the underground station. The underground should take 1hour and 9mins to get to Kings Cross.
Then get off at Kings Cross and take the escalators to Kings Cross train station. Buy your tickets at Kings Cross from the ticket desk or the ticket machines. (If you’re aged between 16-25 you can buy a 16-25 railcard to save 1/3 on travel). Then look at the train timetable to see which platform your train is on.
The fast trains are often from London Kings Cross to Kings Lynn via Cambridge, at quarter past and quarter to the hour. Most fast trains run every 30mins. DON’T take the slow train, it’s much quicker to wait for the fast train! It should take approximately 50minutes.
Once you get to Cambridge you’ll have to get a taxi or a bus into the centre of town. If you get lost at any point give Footprints a call on: 020 7558 8706. We’d be happy to help!
The benefit to this mode of travel is that the tubes run more frequently, it’s quicker and also slightly cheaper. The downside is that you have to lug your luggage onto a tube and then onto a train and then get a taxi into the centre of town and buy multiple tickets along the way. There is lift access at Heathrow, Kings Cross and Cambridge if your luggage is too heavy to carry on the escalators. If the tube is delayed this could add unnecessary hassle to your journey. The underground times are shown below:
Tube Times: Every 2mins from Heathrow Underground Station.
