Mark is an archaeologist and publisher. He read classical archaeology at Oxford, doing a two-year master’s degree and a doctorate. He taught at Rewley House, Oxford University Department for Continuing Education, before going to London to work as Editor-in-chief at Periplus Publishing, where he wrote his first book, about the Vikings.
He was elected as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 2011 and a Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford in 2013, where he mentors post graduate students. More recently, he founded the archaeology magazine Antiqvvs, which he runs part-time as its publisher and Editor-in-chief. This specialises in a range of topics on past civilisations, including Stonehenge. It contains articles written by academics in a semi-popular style, and its readership ranges from enthusiasts to specialists.
