The much-missed restaurant critic, A.A. Gill, loved breakfast at the Wolseley so much he dedicated an entire book to it: ‘Breakfast at The Wolseley’. A glimmering palace full of chandeliers and elegant tables, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s been around since the 1920’s. It actually opened in 2003 and since then has become London’s best reviewed Cafe-Restaurant.The kitchen is most celebrated for its extraordinary breakfast menu which ranges from humble porridges or muesli, to french toast and pancakes, to the luxury caviar omelette. The food was superb; my full english was cooked to perfection and the black pudding was sumptuous. A definite contender for the best breakfast in London.

An Indian restaurant might seem like a strange choice for the best breakfast in London, but we don’t care what anybody says: The Bacon Naan Roll is the holy grail of breakfast sandwiches. Dishoom serves Breakfast in bombay style, and has become intensely popular over the past year. Definitely get there early to avoid the queues. Footprints first discovered Dishoom on a cold january morning, before our 11am London Free Tour. The sweet chai fortified us against the morning cold and the Bacon Naan was so good we ordered 2! Safe to say we walked at a very slow pace for the rest of the morning..

The next contender for the best breakfast in London is the improbable sounding Duck and Waffle. Located on the 40th floor of Heron Tower, Duck and Waffle isn’t cheap, but serves a delicious breakfast with stunning views. It’s open 24/7 so can be the perfect location for a breakfast date or a hangover-cure after a long all-nighter (as many of our tour guides will testify). After being whizzed up 40 floors on an escalator, you’ll find yourself confronted with a jaw-dropping view; the entirety of London laid out before your eyes. The restaurant’s signature is what it says on the tin: two waffles, crisp duck confit, a fried duck egg and maple syrup, heaven! This could be a lovely way to end your London experience before an early-morning flight.

Caravan is a short walk north of Kings Cross Station and is an undisputed masterpiece of urban redevelopment. The Grade II listed granary building has been converted into a social paradise for coffee-lovers, romantic couples and lonely bearded hipsters, all hunting for the best breakfast in London! Caravan has a cool industrial-chic feel to it with a laid back, friendly vibe. After a top notch coffee and baked eggs on sourdough toast with chorizo and a sweet tomato ragu, you’ll be ready to hop straight on a train to Cambridge for our Cambridge Free Tour!

Completing the quest for the best breakfast in London, we’re recommending the Hawksmoor London. The Hawksmoor Breakfast for two is a serious meal, not for the faint hearted. It is a ginormous serving of sausages (made with pork, beef and mutton), smoked bacon chops, black pudding, grilled bone marrow, fried eggs, short-rib bubble & squeak, grilled mushrooms, trotter baked beans, roasted tomatoes and unlimited toast. Scared yet? You should be! My 6ft2 friend and I think of ourselves as serious eaters so we prepared for the meal in all the right ways. We went to the gym, we made sure to eat a light meal the night before and we fasted all morning, confident that we could polish off anything that was put in front of us. Sadly even that wasn’t enough; we were defeated within 10 minutes and needed to sleep for a decade. We practically needed to be rolled out of the restaurant! The food is all cooked to perfection, there’s just so much of it!
