The Cotswolds are often described as the most scenic English region, and our visit to these idyllic surroundings provides an opportunity to take in the area’s charming thatched cottages and quaint rustic villages. Starting with Burford – ranked by Forbes as the sixth best place to live in the world! We conduct a tour to explain how this part of Britain has become so very beautiful, and yet remained so untouched. You are then free to roam around the village at your own pace. Why not indulge yourself in one of the tea shops, or search for a memento among the treasures on offer at the local antiques shops? We then venture further into the Cotswolds, to Bourton-on-the-Water, known as a “Little Venice” due to the meandering beauty of its river, The Windrush.
Blenheim Palace, seat of the Duke of Marlborough, is not only achingly beautiful, but also steeped in history. The Palace is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, who once famously remarked: “At Blenheim I took two very important decisions; to be born and to marry. I am content with the decision I took on both occasions.”
The sumptuous gardens, sprawling over more than 750 hectares, contain an exquisite water garden along with formal gardens. On arrival from Oxford the group will be given a tour of the grounds, along with the aristocratic history of the Palace. You can then either enter the Palace itself, along with the expansive gardens or head to the Churchill Destination Exhibit.
