With brunch becoming more and more popular these days, it can be difficult deciding on a menu to pick from. As residents and students of Oxford, our Oxford Walking Tours guides at Footprints Tours have experienced much of what Oxford has to offer in the culinary world. As a result, they’ve helped us narrow down the list of our favourite places in Oxford for brunch:
5 – Quod Restaurant
Part of the Old Bank Hotel, Quod restaurant is on the more expensive side of our list. However, its quality ingredients more than make up for the extra pound or two spent! In particular, their brunch menu includes sea food specialties like crab, smoked salmon, and whole kippers. For the traditionalists, it also offers a full english breakfast and its vegetarian equivalent.
4 – Turl Street Kitchen
Turl Street is a firm favourite amongst many locals because of its simple but appealing menu. Along with the Full English, Turl Street also includes other English classics like bubble & squeak and grilled kippers.
3 – Oxfork
For the vegetarians out there, Oxfork manages to incorporate vegetarian versions of the American and English breakfast. It also features a breakfast sandwich and a ‘Just for Kids Brekkie’. Its array of organic and free-range egg dishes is perfect for those wishing to start their day off on a healthy note!
2 – Bill’s Restaurant
Perhaps one of the first pioneering chain restaurants to list a lengthy brunch menu, Bill’s Restaurant has an array of instagram worthy dishes to make you get up in the morning. Whether that is their unique peanut butter and banana french toast, or indeed their avocado on toast, Bill’s menu is an assortment of healthy, traditional, and unique dishes.
1 – Missing Bean
Not the most comfortable, but we love the coffee. Tucked down the beautiful Turl Street (2 minutes from our meeting point) is this independent coffee shop. You certainly get the feel that the attention on the surroundings was instead spent on attention to the coffee, and the selection off food is not vast either – but that’s fine with us. With a real strong student vibe and equally cool music to accompany you caffeine fix, this one comes highly recommended.
