In order to see some of the most gorgeous buildings, monuments and museums that make Washington famous all around the world, we recommend ditching the tourist buses and setting out on foot with a fabulous free walking tour of Washington! Finding the right free walking tour can be difficult with so many to choose from. We recommend checking out D.C by Foot for a reasonably good free walking tour.
We recommend their National Mall tour – the original, and most popular, DC by foot tour. This free walking tour takes you to visit the monuments and memorials on the National Mall from the Washington Monument to Lincoln Memorial and everything in between, including a view of the White House. The tour lasts 2 hours, and can be taken at a slow pace, with places to sit if needed. If you want something a bit more strenuous but all encompassing, then check out their All in One tour – an extension of the National Mall Tour, which continues after a short break at the Lincoln Memorial around the Tidal Basin to view some of the oft-forgotten memorials, including the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorials, ending at Jefferson. This tour lasts 4 hours with a snack break. Check out their website to find out more!
