The Museum of Zoology
The Museum of Zoology had its first exhibits in 1814, in the shape of the Harwood anatomical collection. Since then they have acquired an extensive collection of zoological specimens. The Museum recently underwent a major redevelopment and only opened its door to the public in the summer of 2018. They are well-known for their family-friendly events and the stunning green building they inhibit, which was named after Sir David Attenborough.
The highlights of their collections include:
- A stunning 21 meter-long fin whale skeleton hanging in the atrium
- Charles Darwin’s beetle box
- A giant ground sloth specimen
- One of the most complete Dodo skeletons in the entire United Kingdom
Like all other Cambridge museums, the Museum of Zoology is free to enter! They have access available for individuals with limited mobility, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. Additionally they have a charming museum shop and the Whale Cafe, which caters to individuals with various dietary restrictions!
