Christ Church College Oxford

 

Christ Church, founded in 1546, is one of the oldest and most prestigious college in the whole of Oxford. It is one of the largest colleges in the University, with 629 students in 2016, and it is also one of the wealthiest ones. The College’s famous landmarks include Tom Tower designed by world famous architect Christopher Wren and the Tom Quad, which is the largest quadrangle in Oxford.

 

The college has educated an illustrious list of alumni:

• thirteen British Prime Ministers (more than any other Oxbridge College)
• seventeen Archbishops
• world-famous writers such as Lewis Carroll and W.H Auden
• the Enlightenment philosopher John Locke
• the English natural philosopher, architect and polymath Robert Hooke

Nowadays Christchurch is probably most famous for inspiring the great hall of Hogwarts. The stunning dining hall also inspired actual halls at Harvard, Cornell, and the University of Chicago!
