Ultimate Guide to the Playhouse
The Playhouse is one of the most historic venues in the city. To help you with your trip, we’ve put together the ultimate guide to the Playhouse! Enjoy.
Artsy Theatre
The Oxford Playhouse plays to a slightly more upmarket audience than the crowd pleasing New Theatre just across the road. The theatre itself is lovely, but shows can be hit and miss, so be sure to go along to something you really want to see! The bar is a great place to hang out and get a beer during the interval.
Well-known actors who have appeared on the stage at the Playhouse include Rowan Atkinson, Ronnie Barker, Dirk Bogarde, Judi Dench, John Gielgud, Ian McKellen, Dudley Moore, Bill Hicks and Maggie Smith. Susannah York gave her final performance at The Playhouse in August 2010 in Ronald Harwood’s Quartet.
Lovely stuff!
