Stonehenge / Old Sarum / Salisbury / Avebury:
Starting in Oxford, you’ll set off with the iconic spires and cobbled streets behind you. The drive will take you through the picturesque English countryside, with rolling hills and charming villages along the way.
First stop, Stonehenge. As you approach this world-famous prehistoric monument, the sight of the massive stone circle evokes a sense of wonder and mystery. Spend some time exploring the visitor center, where you can learn about the monument’s history and significance. Walking among the stones is an unforgettable experience, allowing you to appreciate the scale and artistry of this ancient site.
Next, we will head to Old Sarum. Just a short drive away, this historic hilltop fort offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. You will be able to explore the ruins of the castle and the remnants of the medieval cathedral, allowing you to imagine the important events that took place here over the centuries.
Then, we will make our way to Salisbury. This charming city is known for its stunning cathedral, which boasts the tallest spire in England. Take a leisurely stroll through the cathedral grounds, visit the Chapter House to see the Magna Carta, and enjoy the vibrant market square filled with shops and cafes.
Finally, we will visit Avebury. Famous for its impressive stone circle (larger than Stonehenge) Avebury offers a more intimate experience. Walk among the stones and explore the quaint village that lies within the circle. The surrounding landscape, dotted with barrows and ancient earthworks, adds to the area’s mystical charm.
Cotswolds / Stratford / Blenheim Palace:
Beginning in Oxford, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through the countryside of the Cotswolds.
Your first stop will be Burford, often called the “Gateway to the Cotswolds.” This quaint village is known for its beautiful limestone buildings, narrow streets, and lovely shops.
We will then head to the “Venice of the Cotswolds”, Bourton-on-the-Water. Here, the picturesque river Windrush flows through the village, lined with traditional stone bridges and charming houses. Enjoy a lovely walk along the riverbanks and other iconic scenery.
After soaking in the beauty of the Cotswolds, we will make our way to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. This vibrant town is steeped in literary history. Visit Shakespeare’s birthplace and explore the charming streets filled with Tudor-style buildings. Don’t miss a chance to see a performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, where the legacy of the Bard comes to life.
Finally, make your way to Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Winston Churchill. Set in stunning gardens, this magnificent palace is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. Explore the opulent state rooms, admire the exquisite art collection, and wander through the beautiful grounds, including the stunning gardens designed by Capability Brown.
Windsor Castle / Eton College:
Kicking things off in Oxford, this trip promisses an experienece of a lifetime. As you approach the town of Windsor, the impressive silhouette of Windsor Castle comes into view. This iconic fortress, one of the oldest and largest inhabited castles in the world, has been a royal residence for over 1,000 years.
Upon arrival, you will explore the castle’s magnificent State Apartments, adorned with priceless art and stunning furnishings. Followed by St. George’s Chapel, an architectural gem and the burial site of several monarchs, including Henry VIII. As you wander the castle grounds, take in the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the River Thames.
Next, we will cross the river towards Eton, home to the prestigious Eton College. The picturesque streets of Eton are lined with historic buildings and charming boutiques.
