With the recent appearance of Tom Cruise in Oxford University filming the new Mummy reboot, there is a big buzz amongst our guides and and visitors during our Oxford Walking Tours! At Footprints Tours, we’re here to provide a behind the scenes look of Tom Cruise and his mummy-chasing film venture!
Despite filming mainly taking place at night around Oxford University, Tom Cruise still took some time out in the day to meet and greet his fans in Radcliffe Square and at the Bodleian Library three days ago. He even took a selfie or two! Although there has been much speculation over what Cruise is filming, with some fans suggesting it is
for the latest Mission Impossible saga, it has been confirmed that he is preparing for the latest Mummy reboot.
The Mummy is due to be released next June and stars Sofia Boutella (previously in The Kingsman) as Cruise’s mummy monster rival. His rumoured love interest is played by Peaky Blinders’ Annabe
lle Wallis. The Mummy Franchise was started by the Universal Horror Series way back in 1932. Since then, Stephen Sommers took over and filmed a trilogy of films starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the 1990s and 2000s. It will be interesting to see how the latest version compares to its predecessors! According to the plot, Tom plays Navy Seal Tyler Colt who goes on a mission to find a group of terrorists taking cover in a bunker in Iraq.
Already there is a huge amount of activity going on in Oxford, so we can’t wait to see what locations are used going forward!
